Dagli Incurabili alla Pietà

Le chiese degli Ospedali Grandi di Venezia tra architettura e musica (1522-1790)

L’intensa attività musicale che si sviluppò negli Ospedali Grandi veneziani tra Cinque e Settecento ebbe nelle chiese annesse ai quattro istituti i principali luoghi di esecuzione. Quale fu il segno lasciato dalla musica su questi edifici? Quali le trasformazioni cui vennero sottoposti per adeguarli alle crescenti necessità della musica? Il volume ripercorre la storia architettonica

delle quattro chiese con l’obiettivo di individuare, in momenti particolarmente significativi delle vicende costruttive, le tracce lasciate dalla musica sull’architettura.

The Ospedali Grandi of Venice are justly celebrated for their excellence in musical performance, which reached new heights during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The orphan girls housed in these institutions performed in the churches attached to the four hospitals. What impact did this musical activity have on the buildings?
